Things to do in Geinberg
History buffs can visit the Römer Ausgrabungsstätte "Villa Rustica”, which preserves the site of a Roman-built estate and its reconstructed bath. It is believed to have been inhabited between the 1st and 3rd centuries before being excavated in the early 20th century. In the nearby town of Altheim is the Roman Museum-Ochzethaus, where you can learn how the Romans lived and worked thousands of years ago.
Rejuvenating experiences are available at the Therme Geinberg, a wellness complex with freshwater and saltwater pools fed by thermal springs. In addition to enjoying the whirlpool, plunge pool and sauna, you can relax on the white, palm-fringed sands of the Caribbean Lagoon. Sweeping views across the Innviertel landscape can be enjoyed from the 180-degree Panorama Lounge.
Geinberg makes a good base for visiting Schloss Katzenberg, which has a rich history dating back to the 12th century. In addition to serving as a wedding venue, this magnificent castle houses a bookbinding museum on its ground floor. Admire the antique Bibles and prayer books on display before exploring the historic library and castle chapel.
