Officially known as Attersee am Attersee, this picturesque village lies on the western shore of Austria’s third-largest lake. It is nestled at the base of the 888-metre-high Buchberg and is an important sailing hub, with an active shipyard and a bustling yacht club.
Visiting in the summer months? Cool off with a swim at Freibadeplatz Sprinzensteinpark, where you'll find two boardwalks with stairs for accessing the lake. Relax with a picnic on the shady lawns or take advantage of the volleyball courts and children’s playground. Standup paddleboards are also available for rent.
If you fancy a round of golf, head to the 18-hole course at the Golfklub am Attersee, which was designed by Diethard Fahrenleitner and Barbara Eisserer. It enjoys superb views across Lake Atter and the Höllengebirge from its fairways and greens while offering challenges for all players.
Getting there
Attersee is 35 minutes' drive from Salzburg and 40 minutes from Salzburg Airport, which has seasonal flights to destinations across Europe. A light railway connects to the village from the Westbahn railway line, which offers train services to both Linz and Salzburg. The centre of Attersee is small enough to explore on foot.
