Nestled in the Lasko Valley, Egerszalok is one of the most famous spa villages in Hungary, with people coming to bathe in its therapeutic waters since the 1730s. Its mineral springs are sourced from the volcanic Matra Mountains and run down a series of travertine cascades before entering the spa pools.
Marvel at the spectacular travertines of “Salt Hill”, which can be accessed along a purpose-built walkway. Locally protected, they transform with the colours of the rainbow after dark. Located at the foot of this natural wonder is a spa facility with a series of therapeutic bathing pools.
A short drive from Egerszalok is the Valley of the Beautiful Woman, which is one of Hungary’s top wine-growing regions. It features more than 20 wineries that have been carved into rock, many of which are accessible on foot. Combine your wine tasting tour with a visit to Eger Castle, a centuries-old fortification that defended the town against Turkish attack in 1552.
