In the summer months, Crested Butte morphs into an outdoor adventure park for hiking, mountain biking and other sports. Hike to the 3,700-metre-high summit of Mt. Crested Butte and enjoy the spectacular views or enjoy a leisurely walk through wildflower-filled meadows. Crested Butte is known as the Wildflower Capital of Colorado and will mesmerise you with its blooms in the spring and summer. Fall is the best time to see the famous Quaking aspen trees change colour.
No matter the season, Elk Avenue is a hive of activity. The downtown thoroughfare is lined with cafes, bars and restaurants where you can relax and refuel. Many of the historic Victorian storefronts house galleries and art studios.
The West Elk Loop Scenic and Historic Byway winds through the mountains and showcases some of the most beautiful scenery in Colorado. Cruise through protected wilderness areas like Kebler Pass and stop in the ranching town of Gunnison to check out the pioneer-themed museum.
Getting around Crested Butte
Crested Butte is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The town is a 4.5-hour drive from Denver and five hours from Denver International Airport. Shuttle buses run between Crested Butte and Gunnison Airport, a 30-minute drive away.
