Located near the junction of the Vilaine and Seiche rivers, Bruz is a growing commune in the French region of Brittany. It was largely destroyed by World War II bombing and has since been rebuilt, with several universities bringing a youthful energy to the town.
Things to do in Bruz
Just across the Vilaine River from Bruz is the Château de Blossac, which was built between the 17th and 18th centuries on the site of a former manor house. Now listed as a Monument Historique, it was occupied by German and American troops during World War II. Join a guided tour to explore its elegantly furnished rooms and surrounding parkland on one of the castle’s Heritage Days.
Birdwatchers can visit Parc Ornithologique de Bretagne, which is home to both native and exotic birds from five different continents. In addition to Siberian geese and American ducks, you can get up close to multi-coloured pheasants, parakeets and birds of prey. Planted throughout the park are seasonal blooms and there’s a central lake where you can watch the birdlife coming and going.
Golfers can enjoy a round at the Golf Bluegreen Rennes/Saint-Jacques, which was laid out in 1989 on the designs of Robert Berthet. It features a compact 18-hole course and two relatively flat 9-hole courses with strategically placed bodies of water. Beginners can develop their skills on the Pitch and Putt course, while advanced players can practice their swing at the Toptracer-equipped driving range.
