Named after two mountains and the Tengger people who inhabit the region, the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is a spectacular natural attraction in East Java. It’s renowned for its “Sea of Sand” and moon-like landscape topped by smouldering volcanic peaks.
Wake early to watch sunrise from the top of Mount Penanjakan, where the day’s first rays illuminate the park’s volcanic summits. Travel to the base of Mount Bromo to walk across its vast sand desert and up to the crater rim to peer into its steaming caldera.
Want to escape the crowds? Lace up your hiking boots and explore Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park’s little-visited walking trails or tackle the two-day trek to the top of Mount Semeru. Admire the beautiful cascades of the Madakaripura Waterfall or discover traditional customs of the Tenggerese people on a village visit.
