Built around a postcard-perfect marina, Bol is one of the prettiest towns in Croatia. Sunbathe on the white beaches, stroll along the seafront promenade and get lost in flower-filled streets lined with ancient stone houses.
Things to do in Bol
The atmospheric Old Town will charm you with its sun-drenched plazas and traditional stone buildings. You’ll notice interpretative signs in front of many historic landmarks, including the beautiful Our-Lady-of-Carmel Church built in the 1600s.
Follow the palm-lined seafront promenade from the Old Town to Zlatni Rat, one of the most photographed beaches in Croatia. The beach stretches down to the Adriatic Sea and is fringed by gleaming white pebbles and lush pine trees. Head to the clothing-optional western end of the beach to get rid of your tan lines.
From May to August, strong westerly winds make Bol one of the top kitesurfing destinations in Europe. Lessons are a fun way to try the adrenaline-fuelled sport. Alternatively, kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals are a relaxing option.
Discover the island’s ancient past in Dragon’s Cave, a one-hour hike from the nearby town of Murvica. Guides escort you into the cave, which houses a 15th-century chapel decorated with intricate carvings of animals, angels and an impressive dragon. Just east of town, you can visit a centuries-old Dominican Monastery filled with Croatian Baroque paintings.
When you need a break from the beach, venture inland to Vidova Gora mountain. It’s one of the tallest peaks on the island and treats you to breathtaking views over Brac and the Adriatic Sea. Allow around 1.5 hours to reach the summit.
Getting around Bol
Bol is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. A 1.5-kilometre-long promenade connects the Old Town with Zlatni Rat beach or you can take a taxi boat. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore the island at your own pace. Car and passenger ferries run between Bol and Split.
