About Bang Pakong

Named after the river that flows through its heart and empties into the Bay of Bangkok, Bang Pakong is an important industrial centre for Bangkok’s power generation. It’s also home to a variety of attractions from cultural sights to natural wonders and impressive recreational facilities.

Things to do in Bang Pakong

Bang Pakong’s main commercial hub lies along Sukhumvit Road, the longest street in Thailand. It hugs the Mai Canal as it travels west towards Bangkok before transforming into one of the capital’s busiest thoroughfares.

Nestled within the mangrove forests of Bang Pakong is Wat Hong Thong, with wooden boardwalks connecting its stupa and ubosot hall to the shore. Admire the murals depicting Buddha’s life and Thai royalty while taking in the sea views, with the temple giving the illusion that it is floating on water.

Set in a hairpin bend of the Bang Pakong River, the Royal Lakeside Golf Club is one of Bangkok’s most exclusive recreational centres. Take in the river and lagoon views from the fairways of this 18-hole, par 72 course, then enjoy a drink in its palatial-style clubhouse which is reminiscent of the White House in Washington D.C.

For a chance to glimpse one of the world’s most endangered animals, join a boat cruise up the Bang Pakong River to spot Irrawaddy dolphins. Unlike other dolphins, they are characterised by a rounded forehead and no beak, preferring estuaries and rivers to the open ocean.
