Things to do in Balingup
Golden Valley Tree Park protects a 60-hectare collection of trees, with some of the oldest planted more than 100 years ago. Wander through the arboretum and you’ll see everything from native Australian eucalypts to deciduous species. There’s a good chance to spot cockatoos and kookaburras perched in the trees. Golden Valley Homestead guards the entrance to the park and was built in the 19th century.
The food and wine scene in the south-west is incredible and Balingup is no exception. Savour locally-roasted coffee and enjoy award-winning wines from the Ferguson Valley and Blackwood River Valley. Head to a local orchard to pick your own fruit and meet friendly farm animals.
Get your hands dirty on the Mundi Biddi Track, a 1,000-kilometre offroad cycling trail that passes by Balingup. Bring your own bike or rent a set of wheels from a local bike shop. The Bibbulmun Track is popular with hikers and takes you through majestic jarrah, marri and karri forests. Rent a canoe or kayak and enjoy a paddle along the Blackwood River.
Visit the neighbouring villages of Kirup and Mullalyup for a change of scenery. Balingup is also well-placed to visit other towns in the south-west, including Bridgetown, Donnybrook and Nannup. Head to the coast to bask on white-sand beaches around Busselton, Yallingup and Margaret River.
Getting around Balingup
The Balingup village centre is compact and easy to get around on foot. You’ll need a car to visit surrounding sights and attractions and explore the Bunbury-Geographe region at your own pace. Balingup is a 2.5-hour drive from Perth and three hours from Perth Airport.
