Nestled amidst the hilly landscapes of Romania’s north-west, Băile Felix is a thermal spa resort fed by the waters of the Peța River. While its springs are thought to have been discovered as early as 1000 AD, the first treatment facilities and buildings weren’t established until 1711.
One of Băile Felix’s most atmospheric buildings is the Descent of the Holy Spirit, a charming wooden church that dates from the 18th century. It lies at the northern end of Park Felix, which centres around a lily-filled pond. You can stretch your legs on the waterfront trail or enjoy a soak in the thermal pools of the Felixarium.
Travelling with kids? You can visit the Felix Water Park, which is packed with swimming pools and water slides that will appeal to all ages. Also nearby is the Strand Apollo-Felix, an attractive thermal facility that boasts the only beach in Băile Felix.
Getting there
Băile Felix is around 10 minutes’ drive from Oradea and 15 minutes from Oradea International Airport. The much larger Cluj "Avram Iancu" International Airport is 2.5 hours away. Regular buses connect to Băile Felix and the town is small enough to explore on foot.
