Things to do in Hofuf
For sweeping views over the countryside, head up to the Qara Mountain lookout. Along the way you can visit the Al-Qara Caves, which are carved into the mountainside and rumoured to be the site where Judas went after betraying Jesus.
Encircled by ancient walls, Ibrahim Palace is one of Saudi Arabia's finest examples of Ottoman architecture. It's known for its elegant semi-circular arches and soaring Islamic domes. Wander around the historic fort, peer into the mosque and visit a small museum showcasing Ottoman artefacts.
It's easy to spend hours getting lost in Qaisariah Souq. The colourful marketplace is filled with stalls selling everything from jewellery and handicrafts to spices and exotic fruits. Of course, you'll also find mountains of local dates.
Al Ahsa National Park is an urban oasis just 25 minutes from Al Hofuf. It's set at the foot of Qara Mountain and features lush lawns, playgrounds and sparkling swimming pools. It's a great place to enjoy a family picnic, relax with a good book and escape the desert sunshine.
Getting around Hofuf
Al Hofuf is relatively easy to get around on foot, while the city is also serviced by local buses and taxis. Dammam's King Fahd International Airport is 130 kilometres from Al Hofuf.
