Plage Quemado is one of the most popular stretches of sand, backed by a wall of rocky cliffs. Bask on the golden sand or rent a pedalo and enjoy a leisurely paddle around the bay. Just out of town, Plage Isri is fringed by shimmering silver sand and is the perfect spot for escaping the crowds. A handful of food stalls line the beach and serve freshly caught seafood. Pebbly Cala Bonita is another local favourite.
Walk down to the main port to watch commercial fishing boats unload their catches. Pick out your fish of choice from one of the vendors, then have your catch of the day grilled at the portside restaurant. The upper patio commands excellent views over the port.
Like most Moroccan towns, Al Hoceima has a bustling souq where you can pick up everything from spices to fresh produce. The resort is also dotted with colourful souvenir shops selling hand-woven bags, embossed lanterns, leather poufs and artisan tea.
Al Hoceima National Park combines rugged mountain scenery with pristine seascapes. 4WD tours take you off the beaten track to hidden beaches and remote Berber settlements. Look for fish eagles soaring overhead.
