The tiny village of Agros is nestled in the Troödos Mountains and surrounded by towering peaks and lush forests. Cobbled streets wind through the village and are lined with traditional stone houses and almond trees.
Damask roses have been grown in the foothills of the mountains for more than a century. Locals continue to make fragrant rosewater, oils, perfumes, syrups, candles and beauty products from the pastel-pink flowers. In addition to beautiful roses, Agros is famous for mouth-watering cured meats. Try “lountza” smoked pork tenderloin and “hiromeri” dried ham marinated in red wine. Both pair perfectly with fried halloumi cheese, a local Cypriot specialty. The town is dotted with workshops where you can learn more about the meat curing process and sample artisan products.
Getting there
Agros is located in the Pitsilia region in south-west Cyprus, a 1.5-hour drive from Paphos. The village is compact and easy to get around on foot. Rental cars offer the freedom to visit Agros and explore the surrounding countryside at your own pace. Paphos International Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away.
