Centred around the Functionalist capital of Zlin, the Zlin Region lies south-east of Moravia, along the Czech Republic’s border with Slovakia. Sightsee in Zlin. Home to workers’ colonies, collective houses and the first Czech skyscraper, Zlin is a Functionalist city that is synonymous with Bata shoes. Delve into the local history at the Museum of Southeast Moravia and get up close to works by Czech artists at the Regional Gallery of Fine Arts. Don’t miss the Tomas Bata Memorial designed by the renowned Czech architect, František Lydie Gahura, in honour of the Bata shoe company founder.
Relax in the spa town of Luhačovice. Famed for its therapeutic waters and fairytale-like buildings, Luhačovice has been attracting visitors since the 17th century. As you explore the town centre, be sure to admire its Swiss Art Nouveau-style villas and the beautifully preserved Chapel of Saint Elizabeth, which dates back to 1795. Frescoes by Jano Köhler decorate the 1902-built Jurkovič House, which is named after its Slovak architect.
Explore along the Moravian Cycle Path. Extending for more than 300 kilometres from the Jeseník Mountains to the town of Mikulov, the Moravian Cycle Path takes in charming villages, protected landscapes and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. It hugs the banks of the Morava River as it passes through the Zlin Region en route to the majestic chateaux of the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape and the monumental Pohansko Castle.
Getting around Zlín Region
Brno–Tuřany Airport and Leoš Janáček Airport Ostrava are the main aviation gateways to the Zlin Region and have flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Trains connect to major towns and cities throughout the region while buses travel to destinations not served by the railway network. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting around the Zlin Region.
