Forming part of the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area, Zapopan is a lively city with one of the largest populations in Jalisco. It has long been a pilgrimage destination due to an image of the Virgin Mary, who is said to have performed several miracles. Zapopan was once an important cultivator of corn and nicknamed “Villa Maicera”.
