Things to do in Yeongdong
Descend into the Yeongdong Wine Tunnel and find out more about the history of winemaking in South Korea. Highlights include walking through a passageway lined with enormous oak wine barrels. Stop by the gift shop to stock up on wine and souvenirs.
Okgye Falls cascades down a rocky cliffside and into an emerald-green pool. Admire the falls from the viewing platform or strip down to your swimsuit and take a dip in the cool water. The Geum River winds through the Songho Tourist Site, which is dotted with towering red pines. Explore the scenic trails and walk across the suspension bridge. The grassy foreshore is great for picnics.
Wollyu-bong peak towers 400 metres over Yeongdong and commands sweeping views over the surrounding mountains and forests. It’s set on a bend in the river and accessed by a steep staircase. It’s worth following the path to Munsujeon, a tiny shrine perched on a clifftop with beautiful views over the countryside. The birdwatching is excellent, with the chance to spot cranes and other species. Hwaeon-ak is another popular hiking area and is blanketed with azaleas and other wildflowers in the spring and summer.
