Near the White House, the world-class museums of the Smithsonian Institution line the National Mall. Past these, you’ll find the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial. The area also offers various other memorials, including the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Korean War Veterans Memorial.
After Washington, D.C., Arlington is the most-famous part of this metropolitan area. It’s home to the Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, as well as the Pentagon and the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial.
Nature lovers will appreciate the amount of green space available in this dense urban area. East Potomac Park and Theodore Roosevelt Island both offer scenic nature and views of the Potomac River. Rock Creek Park, the third National Park in the country, offers over 50 kilometres of hiking trails.

Public transit is a popular and practical choice throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, or WMATA, offers regular trains and buses that connect most of the major sights in the area.
