Things to do in Tsaghkadzor
Set at an altitude of 1,840 metres, Tsaghkadzor Ski Resort offers some of the best snow sports conditions in Armenia. More than 25 kilometres of groomed trails run down the face of Mt Teghenis, with grades for every level. Stylish bars and restaurants ensure Tsaghkadzor has a lively après ski scene. Enjoy a gourmet meal and warm up with a glass of Armenian wine by the fireplace.
Lake Sevan is a 25-kilometre drive from Tsaghkadzor and is one of the largest high-altitude lakes in Europe. Beaches dot the shoreline and are great for sunbathing, swimming and enjoying the scenery. You can also explore the ruins of an ancient fortress and walk around Noratus Cemetery studded with carved “khachkar” tombstones.
Scenic trails wind through the mountains and showcase the spectacular volcano-formed landscapes. The challenging hike up Teghenis Mountain rewards you with sweeping views over the countryside. The trails are especially beautiful in spring and summer when the wildflowers are in full bloom.
Kecharis Monastery dates back to the 11th century and is one of the oldest and most evocative historic sites in Armenia. The medieval complex is anchored by Surp Grigor Church, a handsome building flanked by circular towers. Peer into tiny Surp Nishan chape and admire the vaulted ceilings of the 13th-century cathedral.
Getting around Tsaghkadzor
Tsaghkadzor is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot, while rental cars offer the freedom to explore Tsaghkadzor at your own pace. Trains run between Hrazdan and Yerevan in 1.5 hours. From Hrazdan, it’s a 10-minute drive to Tsaghkadzor. Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan is a one-hour drive away.
