Located east of Madrid, Torrejon de Ardoz was initially established as a fortified town to protect the city of Alcala de Henare. This sprawling municipality is now home to a state-of-the-art Spanish space agency and defence airbase, as well as the replica landmarks of Europe Park.

In the heart of Torrejon de Ardoz is the Museo de la Ciudad, which explores the history of the area from the Palaeolithic era to the present day. Learn about the town’s establishment and see some of its most important occasions caught on film before checking out the temporary exhibitions on display. The Museo de la Ciudad overlooks a bustling plaza and a mural depicting Torrejon de Ardoz in the 18th century.
Travelling with kids? Be sure to spend a day at Europe Park, which features replicas of some of the continent’s most iconic monuments. Get up close to the Brandenburg Gate, the Tower Bridge and the Eiffel Tower before flying along the zip line or enjoying a paddle on the boating lake. In addition to several children’s play areas, the park features a magnificent fountain with a water, light and sound show.
If you want to stretch your legs, head to the leafy walking trails of Parque Los Fresnos, which encompasses children’s playgrounds, flower-filled meadows and plenty of benches for watching the world go by. The neighbouring Plaza de Toros hosts live music performances, cultural events and the annual Torrejon Fair.
Getting around Torrejón de Ardoz
Torrejon de Ardoz is around 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Madrid and 15 minutes from Adolfo Suarez Madrid–Barajas Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. Regular trains connect from the Spanish capital to the Torrejon de Ardoz railway station and buses travel throughout the municipality.
