Things to do in Tomigusuku
Gain insight into the rich history of Tomigusuku at the Former Japanese Navy Underground Headquarters. Explore the labyrinth of underground tunnels that are carved into a mountain and get a sombre look at the artefacts collected from Japanese soldiers during World War II, including a letter from an admiral.
If you’re in need of some retail therapy, visit the Ashibina Outlet Mall, where you can purchase discounted bags, clothes and accessories from luxury brands, such as Gucci, Ferragamo and Coach. Afterwards, sample local delicacies at soba restaurants, then admire its surrounding gardens and East China Sea views.
If you’re a fan of planes, head to Senega Jima Island. The island’s family-friendly park offers a unique view of planes landing at Naha International Airport, located a few metres away. It’s also home to a picturesque beach filled with tiny hermit crabs, an arcade with bumper cars and batting cages.
Enjoy fun in the sun at Toyosaki Kaihin Koen. Go swimming, visit a waterfront restaurant or pack a picnic and cook your own meal in the barbecue area. Stay until the sun dips below the horizon so you can see one of Okinawa’s stunning sunsets.
Getting around Tomigusuku
Located on Okinawa Island, Tomigusuku is best navigated by car, bus or taxi. You can fly into Naha International Airport, eight kilometres from the city centre. There’s a bus terminal in Naha 20 minutes away that offers connections to destinations across the island.
