Tianzhong Township is a lively enclave where you can experience Taiwan through a local lens. There are plenty of local restaurants where you can enjoy mouth-watering dishes like Taiwanese meatballs, oyster omelettes and mutton stewed in traditional herbs and spices. For dessert, try dishes like sweet tofu pudding and shaved ice flavoured with colourful syrup.
Tianzhong Forest Park Trail winds for five kilometres through a subtropical forest. It’s one of the top hiking destinations in Changhua County and is suitable for all fitness levels. Under the towering canopy of alders, maples and hemlocks you’ll feel worlds away from the city. Watch for birds and butterflies flitting among the trees. The trail passes by Zaojue Pavilion, where you’ll get sweeping views over the Taiwan Strait and the Zhuoshui River.
Getting there
Tianzhong Township is located in Changhua County, a one-hour drive from Taichung City. The township is easy to get around on foot. Trains run between Tianzhong Township and Taichung City in around 1.5 hours. Taichung International Airport is a 1.5-hour drive away.
