Tempelhof-Schoneberg is an urban enclave with leafy parks and café-lined streets. Set on the southern fringe of Berlin, the neighbourhood combines an industrial past with a passion for contemporary art, culture and cuisine.
Things to do in Tempelhof
Relax and enjoy the wide open spaces in Tempelhofer Feld. The former airport is reimagined as a sprawling park where locals gather to enjoy the sunshine. Stroll along tree-lined paths and enjoy a picnic on the grassy fields. Park am Gleisdreieck and Natur-Park Südgelände, both former freight yards, showcase Berlin’s commitment to transforming industrial sites into green sanctuaries.
Walk along Potsdamer Strasse and browse independent galleries and studios run by local artisans. The street is an enclave for the city’s Turkish community and boasts some of the best kebab shops in Berlin. You’ll often see David Bowie snapping photos of the mustard-coloured apartment building where the glam rock icon once lived.
Motzstrasse is a hub for Berlin’s vibrant gay community. The thoroughfare is lined with cafes and bars that celebrate the city’s LGBTQ+ scene. Motzstrasse also has a proud literary connection and is a former stomping ground for Christopher Isherwood, author of bestselling novels like Goodbye to Berlin.
Experience luxury shopping at its finest at Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe). After Harrods in London, it’s one of the largest department stores in Europe and boasts more than 60,000 square meters of retail space. In addition to high-end boutiques, the upscale department store features a gourmet food court and delicatessen where you can sample cuisine from around the world.
