Renowned for its therapeutic spring waters, Temerin is a small canal town in the South Bačka district of northern Serbia. It’s home to churches of the Roman Catholic, Protestant and Serbian Orthodox faiths, as well as a miniature zoo and a family-friendly bathing complex.
Things to do in Temerin
Mineral-rich waters high in iodine and sulphur were first discovered in Temerin in 1914 and the town now boasts a swimming complex where you can experience their therapeutic qualities. At the JKP Temerin, you can swim laps in the Olympic-size swimming pool or relax in one of the smaller pools that are fed by 37-degree Celsius spring water. For a more intimate bathing experience, head to the nearby Spa Harmony baths.
Travelling with kids? They’ll love spending an afternoon at the Mini Zoo Vrt Temerin, which has been operated by a local family for more than 30 years. It’s home to an abundance of bird species from around the globe that include parrots, swans and emus. In addition, you can get up close to miniature Cameroonian goats, guinea pigs and raccoons while strolling through the landscaped grounds.
South of Temerin is the Serbian Orthodox Church of Holy Martyr George, a modern house of worship that is a popular spot for local couples to wed. Closer to the town centre is the elaborately decorated St. Rosalia Roman Catholic Church with its beautifully painted ceiling and sculpture of the Virgin Mary holding Christ following his crucifixion.
