Nestled in the High Tatras of Slovakia, Tatranska Lomnica is a charming mountain resort renowned for its summer hiking and winter skiing. It’s connected via a cable car to the 2,634-high summit of Lomnicky Štit where an astronomical observatory is located.
Things to do in Tatranska Lomnica
In the heart of Tatranska Lomnica is the Ski Museum, which explores the origin and development of winter sports in the High Tatras. In addition to 19th-century skis and old racing bobsleighs, it features a replica workshop where wooden ski poles and leather boots were produced. Kids will love the fairytale-like Gertruda’s Chalet, which once stood at the start of Tatranska Lomnica’s toboggan run.
During the snow season, you can hit the groomed downhill slopes and cross-country ski trails of Tatranska Lomnica or take advantage of the two-kilometre-long sledding run. Ride the cable car to the summit of Lomnicky Štit to enjoy spectacular views across the surrounding mountains. When it’s time to eat, you can dine on hearty Slovak fare in the town’s restaurants.
Visiting in the summer months? Explore the picturesque valleys of the High Tatras on one of the many hiking trails or tackle the demanding ascents and descents on the region’s cycling routes. Dotting the mountains are rustic cottages where you can grab meals if you don’t want to carry supplies. The nearby Black Stork Golf Course will challenge golfers of all abilities.
