Named after the Spanish city of Seville, Sevilla is a tiny town in the southern interior of Bohol. It was founded in 1872 on the opposite side of the Loboc River before being relocated to its current site following the Boholano-American War.
Things to do in Sevilla
Don’t miss the Sipatan Twin Hanging Bridge, a pair of bamboo bridges that span the emerald waters of the Loboc River. With the forested banks providing a lush backdrop, it’s a popular photographic destination. You can experience the thrill of crossing the bridge as it shakes with the movement of others or get your adrenaline pumping while diving into the river below.
A short drive south of Sevilla is the Bilar Man-Made Forest, which was planted with white and red mahogany trees in the mid-20th century. It is a popular shooting destination for Filipino filmmakers, with the tall canopy resulting in gorgeous, dappled light. As you wander the two-kilometre stretch of forest, take note of the roots enveloping the boulders on the ground.
Also nearby is the Busay Falls, a 12-metre-wide cascade that tumbles four metres into the Loboc River. It is best explored onboard a river cruise, with the opportunity to bathe beneath the falls before making the return journey. In the middle of the river are two tiny islets that are the perfect setting for a picnic lunch. Also along this stretch of river is the Loktob Spring, an idyllic bathing spot in Gotozon.
Getting around Sevilla
Sevilla is around 40 minutes’ drive from Tagbilaran City and an hour from Bohol–Panglao International Airport, which has flights to destinations across the Philippines. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting to Sevilla and exploring the surrounding region.
