Often referred to as the “Italian Balcony of the East”, Selva di Fasano is a charming village surrounded by a forest of oaks, pines and chestnut trees. It’s located just a stone’s throw from the bustling town of Fasano, with the word “selva” translating as “woods”.
One of Selva di Fasano’s most important architectural landmarks is the Minareto di Fasano, a Moorish-style residence that was constructed in 1912 on the design of Damaso Bianchi. It features geometric motifs, rose windows and several terraces, as well as a high tower that offers panoramic views across the surrounding countryside.
On the outskirts of Selva di Fasano is the Zoosafari Fasanolandia, a drive-thru safari park home to African elephants, American bison and Barbary sheep. Jump aboard the train to get up close to gorillas, chimpanzees and lemurs or come face-to-face with alligators and terrapins in the tanks.
Getting there
Selva di Fasano is a 10-minute drive from Fasano and 25 minutes from Monopoli. Bari International Airport-Karol Wojtyla is an hour away and has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Buses connect to Selva di Fasano and the village is small enough to explore on foot.
