Nestled in Riga’s historic town centre, the centuries-old Riga Cathedral strikes a regal pose near the Daugava River. The Evangelical Lutheran cathedral has inspired numerous paintings and photographs over the years with its prominent weathercock, 13th-century architecture and medieval style.
Venture inside Riga Cathedral to admire the elaborate decorations and priceless religious treasures. You can also get up close to the cathedral’s organ, which dates back to the late-1800s and features more than 6,700 pipes. You can also see detailed stained-glass windows, a dramatic central nave and an eye-catching pulpit.
The Riga Cathedral hosts worship services, concerts, prayers and various local events. Time your visit for one of the concerts held there to witness talented Latvian choirs, organ players or soloists. There are also special family-focused services held on the first Sunday of every month. Next to the Riga Cathedral you’ll find fascinating historical exhibits in the Museum of the History of Riga and Navigation.
