Surrounded on three sides by the Pacific Ocean, Punta de Mita is a private peninsula and luxury resort town on the coast of Nayarit. It’s home to pristine beaches, golf courses and upscale boutiques and makes a perfect base for exploring Islas Marietas National Park and the Riviera Nayarit.
Things to do in Punta de Mita
There are several beautiful beaches in Punta de Mita where you can spend your days while stand up paddleboards are available for rent if you want to explore the coastline. Surfers should head to Playa La Lancha to ride its consistent waves, with lessons and rental boards on offer at the WildMex surf shop.
Jump aboard a boat tour to visit the uninhabited Islas Marietas, which are renowned for their abundant marine life and exceptional snorkelling. Come face-to-face with sea turtles, manta rays and dolphins while exploring the tropical waters and keep your eyes peeled for blue-footed boobies on land. A highlight of any tour to the Islas Marietas is swimming to Playa Escondida, a “hidden beach” that lies within a crater formation.
Keen golfers have no less than six courses to choose from in Punta de Mita, including two designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. If shopping is more your thing, head to Avenida Las Las Redes where you’ll find local fashion labels and indigenous textiles, as well as the upmarket Plaza Ollin. When it comes to dining, you can select from Italian, Japanese and Mexican fare, as well as locally caught seafood.
