Located in the Prahova Valley, Predeal is a popular ski resort and the highest town in Romania. It was heavily damaged during the World War I Battle of Predeal Pass and is surrounded by woodlands that provide a habitat for European pine martens, badgers and grey wolves.
Things to do in Predeal
In the winter months, you can hit the downhill runs of the Pârtia de Schi Clabucet, which boasts snowmaking guns and floodlights that illuminate the slopes at night. There’s an on-site ski school if you’re just learning the ropes and a toboggan course that kids will love. At the end of the day, you can dine at Rafael or party late at Powder Apres Ski.
Predeal makes an ideal base for visiting Bucegi Natural Park, which encompasses rocky peaks, alpine grasslands and natural springs. Follow one of the spectacular hiking trails that access the park’s unique rock formations and waterfalls while keeping your eyes peeled for black chamois and endangered lynx. Bucegi is also renowned as an exceptional rock climbing and caving destination.
On the edge of Bucegi National Park is Peleș Castle, a Neo-Renaissance masterpiece that was constructed for King Carol I between 1873 and 1914. It is open to the public as a museum, with guided tours offering access to its magnificent Hall of Honour. Marvel at the Imperial Suite and the Florentine Room before getting up close to antique weaponry and armour in the Arsenal.
