A beach resort town on the Gulf of Siam, Pran Buri is nicknamed the “Thai Riviera” for its picturesque parks, rivers and shrines. It’s an alluring destination with long stretches of coastline, beaches and caves surrounded by mangrove forests and towering mountains.
Things to do in Pran Buri
Head to Sai Noi Beach, a serene strip of sand where you can rent sunbeds and relax with Thai massages on the beach. Restaurants and pubs line the coast, offering a tranquil atmosphere for drinking cold Chang beer.
At the mouth of Pranburi River, Pranburi Forest Park features mangrove trails on elevated wood boardwalks where you can spy indigenous wildlife, such as kingfishers, chipmunks and porcupines. You can also take a long-tail boat ride through the forest. Head over to Thao Ko Sa Forest Park for some cave exploration, then sign up for kite cabling, a popular water-based activity.
Don’t miss seeing the Tabtim Shrine perched on a hill overlooking the Pranburi Estuary and surrounding picturesque villages. The brilliantly hued shrine features intricately carved walls and columns reflecting Chinese influence in the region.
Dining in Pran Buri ranges from charming local eateries to sleek resort restaurants. Seafood takes centre stage, especially in small cafes, such as Baan Thai One on the main beach road. Another favourite eatery is Jim Daeng, known for its grilled tiger prawns and fish som som.
