Offering magnificent views of the Bernese, Valais and Vaud Alps, Nendaz is a historic town in south-west Switzerland. It lies on a sunny terrace overlooking the Rhône Valley, right at the heart of the Four Valleys Ski Region. Nandez is clustered with traditional wooden houses, barns and grain stores and exudes a family-friendly atmosphere.
Things to do in Nendaz
If you’re visiting in the winter months, you can hit the ski runs of Verbier, Veysonnaz, Nendaz, La Tsoumaz & Thyon, which together comprise the Four Valleys Ski Region. In addition to more than 400 kilometres of pistes, there are cross-country skiing, winter hiking and snowshoeing trails to explore. Nendaz’s apres-ski scene is family-friendly, with a diverse choice of restaurants and cafes to choose from.
Once the snow melts, Nendaz transforms into a hiking and mountain biking wonderland, with scenic trails leading through its orchards and ascending to the alps. You can ride the cable car that leads to the highest peak in the area, Mont-Fort, from where you can enjoy impressive views of the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc.
One of the area’s most picturesque hikes follows the Bisse du Milieu, a historic water channel that was once used for irrigation purposes. At Planchouet, you can feast on Valais specialties at the Auberge Les Bisses before continuing along the Bisse Vieux. In addition, there are themed walks dedicated to Nendaz’s fruit-growing heritage and a hiking trail to some of the biggest larch trees in Europe.
