Things to do in Motueka
Airborne adventurers flock to Motueka on their way to skydiving in Abel Tasman National Park, about 20 kilometres away. In one of the most scenic vistas of New Zealand, you can soar through clear skies while enjoying aerial views of verdant vineyards, golden beaches, snow-capped mountains and rushing rivers.
Drive deeper into Abel Tasman for forested nature hikes and kayaking the coastline on clear mountain rivers. Guided tours combine trail and sea excursions and offer stops for leisurely picnics and birdwatching. You can also rent kayaks or canoes to explore the waters.
Craft breweries and cider houses dot the city streets, including Sprig & Fern Brewery, which also operates a beer-bar tavern and eatery. Visit on a Saturday night for DJs or live music or drop in for quiz nights and the popular barbecue chicken pizza. You can also hear live music at Toad Hall Café, which features ciders and beer brewed on site by Townshend Brewery.
Don’t miss the Motueka Sunday Market, a gathering spot for espresso, street art, buskers and local farmers selling fresh produce. Artisan crafts include handmade jewellery, pottery, Maori crafts, textiles and paintings. Pop-up food carts and cafes abound, including Argentinian fare from Via La Vaca.
