Overlooking the Adriatic Sea, Montesilvano is a coastal city in the mountainous Italian region of Abruzzo. It’s renowned for its lively beach clubs where you can swim, sunbathe and dine in the warmer months, while it’s also a stone’s throw from the cultural attractions of Pescara.
Things to do in Montesilvano
Railway enthusiasts shouldn’t miss a visit to the Museo del Treno, which is home to two locomotives dating from 1924 and 1964. Its collection of rolling stock includes several towed vehicles and a famous FS “F1925” wagon that was used in the pre-World War II period. While browsing the artefacts on display in the museum, you can learn about the railway operations in Montesilvano throughout the decades.
A string of beaches fringes the coastline of Montesilvano, many of which have umbrellas and sun loungers for rent. You can swim and sunbathe at Lido Azzurra, splash around in the shallow waters of Copacabana or relax at Europa Mare. Sea views are on offer from the children’s playground and turtle pond of Parco Pubblico Le Vele.
For a cultural fix, spend a day exploring the museums of Pescara, which is the birthplace of the Italian poet and playwright, Gabriele D’Annunzio. Learn about his life and legacy at the Casa Natale di Gabriele D’Annunzio before discovering the traditional industries of olive oil production and ceramics manufacturing at the Museo delle Genti d’Abruzzo. At the Vittoria Colonna Museum of Modern Art, you’ll find works by Guttuso, Miro and Picasso.
