Mohali, also known as Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, is one of Punjab’s biggest tech hubs and is home to numerous state-of-the-art sporting facilities. The city still showcases a rich history and Indian culture through its centuries-old buildings, bustling street markets and revered Hindu temples.
Things to do in Mohali
Culture vultures will appreciate Mohali’s wealth of religious structures, such as the historic Gurudwara Amb Sahib shrine and Shiv Mandir Hindu temple. Marvel at the tallest minar in India, the Fateh Burj, which stands at around 100 metres tall and is dedicated to the Sikh military commander, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
Mohali boasts multiple tranquil parks that are perfect for taking a break from sightseeing, including the landscaped Rose Garden, which features flower gardens, wide-open lawns and shady walking paths. Alternatively, visit the Kargil Park so the kids can run wild on the playgrounds while you kick back on the grass.
Looking for local delicacies? Check out some of the markets around town, such as the busting Main Market, which is divided into four phases. Here you can browse stalls selling a variety of Indian cuisine, handmade clothing, bargain shoes and jewellery. There are also high-quality restaurants scattered around town, including Barbeque Nation and Tao Chandigarh, a retro Asian restaurant.
Don’t miss seeing the stunning Gurudwara Sri Amb Sahib Patshahi Satv, a three-storey Sikh place of worship built from marble and white tiles. Afterwards, head to the Sikh Museum Mohali to can learn about the region’s Sikh heritage through local artefacts and intricate story-telling displays.
Getting around Mohali
Mohali has domestic and international flights from Chandigarh International Airport, which is about 15 kilometres away. Mohali is also serviced by Mohali Railway Station and multiple bus stations, along with auto-rickshaws and cycle-rickshaws.
