Things to do in Metricup
Pocket-sized Cowaramup is the closest town to Metricup. Stroll along the bustling main street lined with cafes, bakeries and boutiques and taste small-batch gin at the working distillery. The town is dotted with dozens of life-sized, black-and-white dairy cow statues.
Further south is Margaret River, a lively town with a proud surfing legacy. You’ll find everything from colourful surf shops and art galleries to fudge shops and wholefoods stores on the main street. Enjoy classic pub fare and live music at the local tavern or splurge on cocktails and tapas.
From sheltered bays framed by leafy peppermint trees to dramatic beaches studded with enormous granite boulders, the South West coastline is spectacular. Head to Main Break to watch local surfers ride monster waves. The family-friendly Meelup Beach will dazzle you with its sugar-white sand and translucent water.
The Cape to Cape Track stretches along the coast from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin and is one of the best coastal walks in Australia. Hike the entire track or tackle bite-sized sections. Look for whales breaching offshore from June to November.
From artisan chocolate factories to authentic French nougat, you’ll find all kinds of treats in Metricup. Sit down for a guided tasting at a boutique winery and try award-winning Chardonnay. Getting around Metricup
You’ll need a rental car to explore Metricup and the Margaret River Region at your own pace. The community is in the South West region of Western Australia, a three-hour drive from Perth and Perth Airport. Busselton Margaret River Airport is a 30-minute drive away.
