Whether you’re searching for wildflower-strewn hiking trails or snow-dusted slopes, you’ll find it in Macugnaga. The tiny mountain village is set at the foot of Monte Rosa, one of the tallest peaks in Western Europe.
Powderhounds descend on Macugnaga in the winter. At an altitude of more than 1,300 metres, the village enjoys blue skies and lashings of fresh powder. Discover more than 30 kilometres of groomed slopes, including options for beginners and pros. The highest chairlift gets you almost 3,000 metres above sea level.
The summer months drench Macugnaga in the sunshine. Use the village as a base to hike in the Monte Rosa Massif and the Anzasca Valley. There are options for every age and fitness level, from relaxing riverside walks to challenging summit trails.
Fill your backpack with Castelmagno cow’s milk cheese, “grissini” breadsticks and “salsiccia di bra” beef sausages. Hazelnuts are another local specialty and make an excellent hiking snack. Back in the village, you can refuel at cosy trattorias. Treat yourself to melt-in-your-mouth Piedmontese beef and fresh egg pasta tossed with white truffles.
