Kosciuszko National Park is home to Australia’s highest peak, Mount Kosciuszko, along with country’s highest town. During summer, this area is a popular place for hiking and mountain biking. Alternatively, you can explore the walking trails around the Lower Snowy River, which can also be traversed via bicycle or on horseback.
Keen anglers should head to the Khancoban area for fantastic fishing, while the Yarrangobilly area is best known for its intricate caves systems and thermal pools. Visit the High Plains area for enthralling hiking and horse riding among caves, mountain huts and gorges.
Getting there
Kosciuszko National Park is about 2.5 hours’ drive from Canberra, where you can fly into Canberra Airport and rent a car. The national park is best explored using a car, with ample parking in the main areas.
