Ko Phi Phi Don is the largest of six islands that make up the heavenly Phi Phi Islands archipelago, where cocktail-blue waters surround limestone cliffs and sandy beaches. Over the years, Koh Phi Phi has become a tourism mecca, complementing its two main beaches with fine-dining restaurants, all-night clubs and souvenir stands.
Fortunately, the island still retains its traditional charm, from longtail boats and dense jungles to native birds and other wildlife. It’s essentially two distinct islands joined by an isthmus, both home to idyllic beaches and luxurious resorts. If you prefer a more tranquil environment, head to the eastern coastline, where intimate bungalows are nestled on the shores of secluded bays.
Looking to explore more of the archipelago? Organise a guided tour of the surrounding islands, such as Koh Phi Phi Le, which is famously known as the filming location for “The Beach”. Snorkelling and sailing cruises are also available, along with cliff jumping in Ton Sai Bay, yoga classes and pampering day spas.
Getting there
The best way to reach Ko Phi Phi Don is via ferry from Phuket, Ao Nang, Ko Lanta, Rai Leh or Krabi Town, which typically drop you off at Tonsai Pier. The journey usually takes between one and two hours depending on where you depart.
