Things to do in Kivik
Kivik farmers have been growing apples for hundreds of years and are incredibly proud of their local export. Don’t leave without sampling local specialties such as apple cider, apple brandy, apple cake, apple mustard and apple butter. Stroll around the Kiviks Musteri orchard to admire different tree varieties, then enjoy a slice of freshly baked apple cobbler at the café.
One of the largest Bronze Age burial grounds in Sweden, Kungagraven dates back to 1000 BC. While the original burial chambers and engraved stones were stolen in the 18th century, they’ve been replaced with impressive replicas.
Kivik is a launchpad for adventures in Stenshuvud National Park. This beautiful seaside sanctuary is laced with scenic walking trails that take you to sandy beaches, coastal forests and hilltop forts. Guided nature walks depart from the Naturum visitor centre and offer more information on the park’s unique ecosystem.
A short drive down the coast, the harbourside city of Simrishamn charms with its cobbled streets and colourful houses. Enjoy lunch at an al fresco café and browse independent gift shops in the town centre. Just out of town, Glimmingehus dates back to the early 16th century and is one of the most impressive medieval castles in Sweden.
Getting around Kivik
Kivik is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. The town is a 1.5-hour drive from Malmo or 2.5 hours by train and bus. Rental cars offer the freedom to explore at your own pace.
