Nestled between two national parks, Khao Kho is your gateway to some of Thailand’s most stunning natural spoils, from mountains to waterfalls. The region is dotted with magnificent temples and war monuments, while the actual township reveals a charming atmosphere with its guest houses and adventure park.
Things to do in Khao Kho
You’ll find a wealth of revered temples around Khao Kho, including the notable Wat Prathat Phasornkaew, one of the highest regarded religious structures in Thailand. The mountaintop Buddhist monastery showcases colourful mosaic tiles and is encircled by manicured gardens. You can also see religious relics at the Kanchanapisek Pagoda, which has a photogenic whitewashed exterior.
Nature lovers will enjoy exploring the sprawling Thung Salaeng Luang National Park, where you can marvel at numerous waterfalls and wander through flower-strewn meadows. Keep an eye out for native animals such as elephants, warblers, woodpeckers, owls and yellow-throated martens. Don’t miss seeing Kaeng Sopha Waterfall, which is tiered like a stairway and is the largest in Thailand.
Close to town you’ll find the Khao Kho Memorial, which commemorates Thai soldiers and showcases a range of military aircraft, including planes and helicopters. Afterwards, continue on to the Weapon Museum to see more military artefacts, including tanks and artillery guns.
If you’re visiting Khao Kho with your family, spend a day out at Phukaew Adventure Park. Enjoy the kid-friendly rides and play structures, and on your way back into town, stop by B.N. Farm to pick up some fresh vegetables and fruits, including exotic varieties.
