Things to do in Al Juffair
Al Fatih Mosque soars over Juffair and is one of the largest in the city. It was built in 1983 to honour Sheikh Ahmed Bin Muhammad Bin Khalifa, who liberated Bahrain from Persian rule. No expense was spared, and you’ll be dazzled by the Italian marble floors, Austrian glass windows and enormous doors carved from Indian teak. Guided tours are a great way to learn more about the mosque, which can accommodate up to 7,000 people.
Juffair borders the Adliya neighbourhood, where you’ll find a cluster of trendy cafes, boutiques and galleries. Arabesque Art Gallery showcases beautiful watercolours and oil paintings by a local artist, while Albareh Art Gallery spotlights talent from across the Middle East.
Whether you’re looking for designer brands or bargains, the shopping in Juffair is excellent. The neighbourhood is home to several malls, including the enormous Juffair Mall where you’ll find a movie theatre and an international food court.
Bahrain National Museum charts the fascinating history, culture and traditions of the country and is an easy taxi or bus ride from Juffair. View artefacts discovered at the ancient Dilmun site and walk through a recreated Arabian souq. The light-filled museum café serves excellent coffee and features a breezy terrace overlooking the bay.
