Things to do in Izu
If you’re looking for rest and relaxation, you’ve come to the right place. Izu is surrounded by some of Japan’s best hot springs, including the outdoor Ohito Hot Spring, which has Mount Fuji vistas and mineral-rich water flowing from the gold vein of the Ohito gold mine. You’ll find true peace while walking along the Bamboo Forest Path, which sits along the Kitamata River.
Don’t visit Izu without exploring the stunning Izu peninsula. It’s home to rugged coastal mountains and cliffs, along with secluded bays, sandy beaches and charming coastal communities. Shirahama Beach boasts inviting white sand, while the Jogasaki Coast offers incredible water views from its suspension bridge.
Those keen on tackling the region’s highest peak should hike Mount Amagi, a range of volcanic mountains with the highest point at 1,406 metres. You’ll find the famed Jōren Falls nearby, which cascade 25 metres into a natural rock swimming pool.
Looking for incredible views of the region? Ride the Izunokuni Panorama Park Ropeway, which transports you over 400 metres up into the air, offering panoramic views of Mount Fuji.
