Things to do in Goderich
Constructed using stone from the Maitland River, the octagonal fortress of Huron Historic Gaol is the focal point of Goderich. Discover its 130-year-old history on a guided tour through the prison corridors and holding cells before venturing into the adjoining Huron County Museum in the Victorian-era Governor’s House.
Cycle along the Maitland River on the Tiger Dunlop Heritage Trail. The heritage trail crosses over the Menesetung Bridge and features superb views over Godrench Harbour and Lake Huron. Along the way, stop by Commemorative Rock and the Tiger Dunlop Tomb and keep an eye out for native Monarch Butterflies.
Craving a beach day? Relax along the white-sand shores of Lake Huron at Rotary Cove Beach where the shallow, crystal-clear waters are ideal for swimming. For a quiet retreat, head south of Goderich to Black’s Point Beach or buy fresh local produce at the Goderich Farmers’ Market and head to Sunset Beach for an evening picnic.
If you’re after a hike with rewarding views, head to Point Farms Provincial Park. This Victorian-style park is perched on the bluff overlooking Lake Huron and offers six kilometers of inland forest and coastal hiking trails. For evening entertainment, head to the Livery Theatre to see a comedy, theatre or jazz.
Getting around Goderich
Walking is the best way to explore Goderich’s beautiful waterfront and downtown, while shuttle services, taxis and bicycles are readily available. Goderich is a 1.5-hour drive from London International Airport or a four-hour bus from Toronto Pearson International Airport.
