Things to do in George Town
You can’t visit George Town without seeing its world-renowned Seven Mile Beach, consistently rated one of the Caribbean’s best beaches. This crescent-shaped beach features white coral-sand backed by blue, crystal-clear water. Along with beachfront restaurants, bars and luxury resorts, Seven Mile Beach also has a number of offshore reefs that are perfect for snorkelling.
Immerse yourself in the local history at the Cayman Islands National Museum, housed in the historic former Old Courts Building. Inside, you can find over 8,000 artefacts and personal belongings dating back almost 100 years, including old coins and traditional catboats. It’s a short walk from the colonial-era Fort George Ruins and the 1919 Peace Memorial, a white clock commemorating World War I.

You can browse through shops that line the promenade and visit the fine-dining and themed restaurants. Keen scuba divers can organise a dive at the Kittiwake Shipwreck & Artificial Reef to explore the wreck of the USS Kittiwake, which has been turned into a man-made reef teeming with marine life. Snorkelers can head to Smith’s Barcadere, a sandy cove with reefs and picnic facilities.

George Town is about 2.5 kilometres from Owen Roberts International Airport, which boasts multiple car hire companies. Along with private vehicles, the best way to get around George Town is by using the local minibuses and taxis.
