Named after the Al Mahmoud tribe that first settled in the area, Fereej Bin Mahmoud is a residential and commercial area west of central Doha. It was developed in the 1970s adjacent to the historic district of Mushayrib and is home to family-friendly attractions, shopping malls and peaceful parks.
Things to do in Fereej Bin Mahmoud
On the eastern edge of Fereej Bin Mahmoud is Doha Quest, a high-tech amusement park with family-friendly rides and virtual reality experiences. Ride the world’s tallest indoor roller coaster, the Epiq, or experience the thrilling drop of the Magma Blast before watching a 4D screening at the “Wings of Destiny”. Younger kids will love the carousel and the Clubhouse play area.
High-end international retailers and local boutiques can be found at the light-filled Royal Plaza Mall, an upscale shopping destination on the western edge of Fereej Bin Mahmoud. Casual eateries are dotted throughout the mall, including Oishi Sushi, Yellow Cab Pizza and Dunkin’ Donuts. Also nearby is Al Sadd Mall, which was designed on the aesthetics of a desert oasis.
For a breath of fresh air, head to Al Bidda Park, which boasts a waterfront setting overlooking the Doha Corniche. It’s one of the oldest green spaces in the city and a popular birdwatching site, with several migratory species coming to rest here. Don’t miss the photogenic Arched Monument and the Water Plaza, as well as the amphitheatre with its sweeping views of Doha.
Getting around Fereej Bin Mahmoud
Fereej Bin Mahmoud is around five minutes’ drive from the centre of Doha and 10 minutes from Doha International Airport, which has flights to destinations across the globe. Subway services connect to Bin Mahmoud Station and buses travel throughout the neighbourhood, connecting most of its attractions.
