Federacion is a vibrant city resting on the banks of Uruguay River and the Salto Grande Dam. Once a small village and ranch, Federacion has transformed into a modern city celebrating old and the new while showcasing natural hot springs, fantastic fishing and artisan chocolate.
Things to do in Federación
Step back in time with a trolley tour of the Old City and discover the fascinating story of how the original town was abandoned. Venture across the Uruguay River and transverse the dusty streets where the old chapel, school and hospital still stand.
Experience the healing properties of the region’s thermal water at Federacion Hot Springs. Opened to the public in 1995, the hot springs are surrounded by lush green lawns and receive mineral-rich water from 1,200 metres below the ground.
Take a refreshing dip in Uruguay River or Salto Grande Lake where the shores are lined with white sandy beaches and the open water is ideal for kitesurfing, jet skiing and sailing. Fishing enthusiasts can catch giant bogas, paties and dorados in the vast reservoir, while active travellers can hire bikes and cycle around the lake.
For more thrills, head to Federacion Aquatic Park and speed down slippery waterslides. You can also float along the lazy river or relax beneath a waterfall in the children’s pool. Afterwards, stop by Honecker Chocolaterie to indulge in the handmade chocolates and try an aromatic cup of “mate”, Argentina’s traditional tea.
