Located in Galway’s charming city centre, Eyre Square is a popular public park positioned near the city’s main train station and is connected to two bustling shopping precincts. Also called John F. Kennedy Memorial Park, the wide-open space dates back to medieval times when it preceded the town gate and used to host lively markets.
These days it’s home to numerous historical landmarks, including the Quincentennial Fountain. Keep an eye out for statues of prominent individuals, including Irish language writer, Pádraic Ó Conaire, former U.S. President John F. Kennedy and War of Independence hero, Liam Mellows.
Are you looking for some retail therapy? Eyre Square is your gateway to some of the best shopping in Galway, particularly at Eyre Square Shopping Centre, which holds about 70 shops. You’ll find a range of Irish and European retailers within the centre, including JD Sports, GameStop, New Look, G2 Shoes and The Jewellery Box. You can also enjoy a pint of Guinness at various pubs around the square, including The Skeff Bar and O'Connell's Bar.
