Ciudad Acuna is anchored by a picturesque plaza lined with bars, cafes and restaurants. One of the oldest establishments has been operating since the 1920s and serves excellent margaritas and Mexican food accompanied by traditional mariachi music.
Local street performers and musicians ensure the atmosphere is always lively and upbeat in Ciudad Acuna. The town is also dotted with shops and stalls run by local artisans, which are great for picking up hand-painted ceramics, jewellery and other unique souvenirs.
Ciudad Acuna is a launchpad for Parque Nacional de los Novillos, a wildlife sanctuary where you can spot tortoises, snakes and other native animals. Trails wind through the park and showcase beautiful walnut and oak trees, as well as dozens of cactus varieties. Beaches fringe Amistad Dam and are great for cooling off after a hike.
Built for a John Wayne blockbuster, the Alamo Village Movie Set transports you to a Wild West town. It’s just across the border in Texas and is open for tours when it’s not being used by movie crews.
Getting around Ciudad Acuña
Ciudad Acuna is pedestrian-friendly and easy to get around on foot. Taxis are a fast and comfortable way to get from A to B. Ciudad Acuna International Airport is a 25-minute drive away while San Antonio International Airport is 3.5 hours east.
