Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is the city’s best-known market, located on the eastern side of the old walled city. The shopper’s paradise is a hive of activity every evening with vendors selling handicrafts, antiques, ceramics, clothing, jewelry, artwork, furniture and handbags.
Stroll through this famous night bazaar to experience its bustling atmosphere, sample aromatic food and sharpen your bargaining skills. The market was once a trade center for Chinese Muslims who sold gold, ivory, and tobacco, but today you can pick up Thai silks, handmade tea, silverware, and dried fruits.
Don’t leave without trying some of Chiang Mai’s famous street food, such as the Northern Thai sausage, banana roti bread or mango sticky rice. If you need a break from the hustle, wander off the main drag to Kalare Night Bazaar and Anusarn Market, which are more relaxed.
Getting there
Chiang Mai Night Bazaar is set around Chiang Klan Road near the Ping River. You can reach the bazaar by bus, taxi, tuk-tuk or rideshare services. It’s a one-kilometer walk from Tha Phae Gate.
