Bicaz Gorge is framed by soaring, 300-metre-high cliffs. The rugged Hasmaș Mountains tower in the distance. A narrow road winds through the gorge and immerses you in the spectacular scenery. Look closely to see rare wallcreeper birds nesting on the cliffsides. You might also see rock climbers scaling the sheer cliffs.
Scenic trails wind around Lacul Rosu. Deposits of iron give the lake its unique red hue. Rent a kayak and paddle around the lake. Keep an eye out for brown bears, red deer and lynx on the shoreline. The birding is fantastic, with the chance to spot woodpeckers, owls and golden eagles around the lake.

Bicaz is compact and easy to get around on foot, while rental cars are an easy way to visit surrounding sights and attractions at your own pace. Bicaz is a 40-minute drive from Piatra Neamț. Bucharest International Airport is a 5.5-hour drive away.
